Bahamas Weather - Best and Worst Months to Go

Heavy rain in the fall months is a predictable part of Bahama island weather, but it doesn't stop Caribbean vacationers from flocking there.

The islands are the most popular tourist destination in the region - mainly because of the large number of cruise visits embarking from various U.S. ports along the Gulf of Mexico and the east coast.

Bahamas weather is cooler and rainier than most other places in the region.

The average monthly high temperature is about 84 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the World Meteorological Organization. The average monthly low temperature is 69.5 degrees. Temperatures are among the lowest in the region in part because the Bahamas lie north of all other Caribbean destinations.

The average monthly rainfall is among the highest at 4.6 inches a month. The average monthly rain days is nearly 12 per month, also among the highest.

The average monthly high temperatures peak at about 89 degrees in July, August and September and bottom at less than 80 degrees from December through March.

Rain averages about 7.4 inches a month from June through October with a yearly high of 9.3 inches and 19 rain days in August. Rainfall is only 1.9 inches a month from December through March.

Anyone planning to visit the Bahamas who wants to enjoy ocean swimming will want to avoid December through March because of cool weather. Visitors also should avoid June through October - and especially June and August - because of rain. The best weather months to visit are April, May and November.

Top Twelve Celebrities Who Own Islands and Mansions in the Bahamas

The Bahamas are a great place for anyone to visit - especially celebrities. But the cost of islands are through the roof. Only the most rich and famous can afford actual islands. Some of them merely own mansions. Life must be rough.

See if you can identify the locations of the following celebrity island homes!

James Bond

OK, so James Bond is technically not a resident of the Bahamas. But many Bond movies have been filmed on location in the Bahamas, including Thunderball, Casino Royale, and the upcoming Quantum of Solace.

Bahamas visitors are welcome to take a water taxi ride to see the Thunderball filming location; however, as these rides are not operated by hotels but rather independent owners, there are no guarantees when it comes to personal safety on the taxi or the location of your drop-off point, which may be miles away from your original destination!

No word yet as to whether James Bond has actually applied for dual citizenship in the Bahamas.

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage owns not one, but two islands, in the Bahamas. He purchased his first island in the territory of the Exuma Islands back in 2000 and in 2006 acquired a 40-acre island near Paradise Island for a cool $3 million. Apparently the latter was mostly a gift for his wife, Alice.

Sean Connery

Maybe James did apply for dual citizenship after all.

Sean Connery, James Bond numero uno, cut back on acting to go golfing. And what better place to go golfing than his home in the Bahamas? He has mentioned that he would quit the Bahamas and return to Scotland if she were granted independence, but that has yet to be seen. So Sean lives out his days playing golf, sipping martinis, and bothering his neighbors in his home near New Providence island.

Johnny Depp

Apparently, good old Captain Jack fell in love with the Bahamas so much whilst filming Pirates of the Caribbean 1,2, and 3, that he simply had to buy his slice of the Bahamian pie. So he purchased Little Halls Pond Cay island, which is about 60 miles away from Nassau, for a sweet $3.6 million. He now juggles his time between France and the Bahamas with Vanessa Paradis and their two children.

Bill Gates

No multi-billionaire's life would be complete without a hunk of Bahamian island. Bill Gates' portion is situated on Harbour Island near North Eleuthera, Bahamas.

Michael Jordan

Did you ever wonder what Mike did with all that dough he got from Nike? Yes, he too, bought property near Paradise Island in the Bahamas. As we recall, his mansion is in the vicinity of Oprah's and Chuck Norris'.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

This crooning country couple also live in the Bahamas. Their little piece of paradise is near Nicolas Cage's second island - only they were there first.

Eddie Murphy - owns island

Eddie Murphy's island was within viewing distance from the Atlantis Resort. He owns Rooster Cay (also known as Long Cay), which is about fifteen minutes away from Nassau - depending on who's driving. We almost got a look at his mansion while we were jet skiing.

Chuck Norris

A man of Chuck Norris' kicking talent needs to have wide open spaces to work out... the Bahamas must be about perfect for him. He lives near Oprah and Michael Jordan on the same strip of island - unless he owns more that I'm not aware of...

Oprah

As aforementioned, the empress of daytime talk shows owns a piece of heaven in the Bahamas, a pristine, white mansion all to herself. She's also been rumored to have rented other Bahamian islands for $300,000.00 a week. But maybe that's just talk...

Shakira

The hip songbird from Colombia owns a home - and recording studio - right in the Bahamas. Talk about nice! But apparently it wasn't as good as her studio in Uruguay, where she is working on her upcoming album.

John Travolta

He owns his own Boeing 707 - why wouldn't he own Bahamian property? Yes, even John Travolta has taken up residency in the Bahamas. Presumably his portion of island strip is big enough to accommodate his jet.

-------------------
Wow! That's interesting. Most of the Hollywood stars have their own mansions in Bahamas. Now wonder why they chose Bahamas because of it's beautiful beaches and weather.

Best Bahamas Beaches

Generally popular among honeymooners, Bahamas is a great place to spend your vacation, regardless of your money status or the reasons to visit.

There are plenty of reasons to visit Bahamas the majority of travelers come here for the incredible beaches. Since Bahamas is home to some of the best rated beaches in the entire Caribbean we shouldn’t wonder why the most popular of them are always crowded.

Of course, there are secluded beaches for those wanting to escape the hoards of tourists and spend a relax day away from everything.
1. Cable Beach

This lovely 4 miles beach is located on New Providence Island. It’s by far the best island on the island if you want to be close to everything (like shops and bars). Also, it is highly popular among families with children because there are enough facilities close to the beach.

Cable Beach is located on West Bay Street in Nassau. There are plenty of hotels close to the beach, ranging from the high end ones to budget ones. Among the most popular, there are: Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort, Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island and Breezes Bahamas All Inclusive.

2. Cabbage Beach

It is the most popular on Paradise Island and always crowded. Thankfully, it’s big enough for everyone. Although it is a public beach, most travelers coming here stay at the hotels that line the northern shore of island. However, there are no public restrooms and only the hotels’ guests can use those in the hotels.

You can reach Paradise Island from downtown Nassau by crossing the bridge or taking a ferry. There are several mega-hotels right by the beach which explains why it’s crowded most of the time. Among the very popular accommodation, we can find: Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island Harbour Resort All Inclusive and One & Only Ocean Club.

3. Xanadu Beach

This is by far the most popular beach on Grand Bahama Island. It’s perfect for swimming thanks to the calm waters. It’s also popular among families with children as facilities can be accessed easily in nearby Freeport. It is, however, one of the most crowded beaches on the island.

The beach is located right by the largest hotel on the island, Xanadu Beach Resort & Marina , and is easily accessed from Freeport.

4. Tahiti Beach

It is, by far, the most romantic beach in Bahamas, making it very popular among couples. It can be accessed via a gravel road (but cars cannot drive on it). You can hike or ride a bike to get here. Make sure to bring water and food as there are limited facilities on the beach.

The beach is located on the northern coast, rather close (1.3 miles) to Bluff House Beach Hotel & Yacht Club and near Hopetown. There are several other hotels located in the “vicinity” of the beach, but not closer than 12 miles.

5. Pink Sands Beach

The Caribbean Travel and Life magazine rated this beach as one of the best in the Caribbean. As the name implies, the sand is pink. It offers some of the safest place to swim in the Bahamas thanks to the coral reef protecting it.

Pink Sand Beach is located near Dunmore Town and right by Pink Sands Hotel. There are some hotels located rather close to the beach but not adjacent to it, which means you can relax here without encountering the hoards of tourists.

6. Ten Bay Beach

There aren’t any facilities on the beach which probably makes it even more appealing if you are looking for an intimate beach.

The beach is located close to Governors Harbour but the closest hotel, Quality Inn Cigatoo is at more than 15 miles away. That’s why you can count on this beach to be intimate and not crowded.

7. Paradise Beach

It is probably the best beach on Paradise Island but it’s tricky to access it. You either have to be a guest at Atlantis Resort or live in Bahamas year long.

The beach is easily accessed from Nassau: just cross the bridge or take a ferry. But if you are not staying at the Atlantis Resort it’s better to go to Cabbage Beach.

8. Love Beach

This is a small and secluded beach, ideal if you are looking for a quiet place to snorkel. At just 1 mile off the shore there’s a lovely coral reef to be discovered.

The beach is located at about 15 miles from downtown Nassau. The problem, however, is how to access the beach. If you stay at Compass Point you can use the beach but otherwise it’s a bit tricky. Also, there’s a place called Nirvana (heading west from the resort) which gives access for a small fee.

9. Treasure Cay Beach

It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There’s a huge resort here and the location is starting to get trendier, hence more expensive, but there are still good deals to find.

The beach is located in Treasure Cay Village, on the island of Abaco. There is plenty of accommodation available near or on the beach. Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina is located right on the beach but if you are looking for something cheaper you can try to book one of the villas or condos

Bahamas: The Eternal Summer of the Bahamas

The Islands of the Bahamas is a 100,000-square-mile tropical paradise that claims more than 700 islands and 2500 cays and lies a mere 50 miles off the Florida coast.

Once called the “Isles of Perpetual June” by George Washington, the Bahamas is blessed with a tropical climate that makes it a year-round destination for people who long for a calming respite from the grueling rat race.

The best time to visit the Bahamas is in the summer, which falls between June and August. While winter can be surprisingly cold, daily high temperatures in the Bahamas rarely drop below 16°C from December to February, and the sun shines an average of 320 days out of the year.

There’s Something for Everyone in the Bahamas

Touted as the “playground of the rich and famous,” the Bahamas offers a smorgasbord of attractions and diversions that are as colorful and unique as the archipelago’s history, heritage, and habitants. The diverse geography and rich natural resources of the Bahamas guarantee satisfaction for tourists of every agenda and persuasion.

surfing vacation

Surf lovers will find boundless serenity and self-indulgence in the Bahamas’ breath-taking beaches, while fun seekers who prefer to shun the sun can go spelunking in the Hatchet Bay Caves or bird-watching at Inagua.

Many travelers discover that there is so much to see and do in the Bahamas that only a return visit would enable them to sample every little pleasure that the Bahamas has to offer.

Bahamas : Have surf, will soak

What’s the good of going to the Bahamas if you’d rather stay dry? Resisting the allure of the pristine beaches and soft, powdery sand of the Bahamas islands would be akin to skipping the gondola ride when visiting Venice.

With its endless stretch of spectacular sand and sea, the Bahamas is a beach lover’s paradise that should not be missed. The beaches of the Bahamas provide an idyllic refuge for everyone from world-weary travelers to starry-eyed honeymooners.

Florida beaches

Boasting of over 500 miles of the world’s clearest waters, the Bahamas pulsates with an inexhaustible array of beach and water activities. Emerald green and crystal blue waters provide a magnificent venue for water sports in the Bahamas such as parasailing, waterskiing, and windsurfing.

Bimini Island, deep-sea fishing capital of the world and Ernest Hemingway’s favorite game-fishing hideaway in the Bahamas, teems with marine life that is unrivaled in any other part of the world. Visitors to the Bahamas who are not beguiled by the charms of water sports and game fishing can always retreat to a secluded spot on the beach and curl up with a good book while working on a killer tan.

Seek Sanctuary in the Wildlife of the Bahamas

Wildlife enthusiasts who are loathe to strap on a swimsuit will find plenty of destinations and adventures choose from in the Bahamas. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a 176-square-mile ecological preserve and wildlife refuge in the Bahamas that is home to several rare birds, colorful fish, and exotic reptiles, including the endangered Bahamian Iguana.

Fancy a flamingo? Head to the Abaco National Park on Out Island and the Great Inagua in the Bahamas, considered as two of the best bird-watching destinations in the entire Caribbean Islands.

A Genuine Taste of the Hospitality, Culture, and Folklore of the Bahamas

With the aim of giving visitors an authentic and enriching encounter with the people and culture of the Bahamas, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism launched the People-to-People Encounter Program in 1975.

Over 1,200 Bahamians participate in the community involvement venture that brings visitors and Bahamas residents together on a more personal basis.

Visitors get a first-hand taste of life on the islands by engaging in quotidian activities with their Bahamas hosts, such as sharing a home-cooked meal, spending an evening of pleasant conversation, or worshipping at church. Through People-to-People, participants gain invaluable insight and a wealth of memories that will make their visit to the Bahamas a truly rewarding experience.

Vacations Bimini - Bahamas

Bimini is located a mere 50 miles off the shore of Miami, Florida, making it a popular holiday
destination for Americans. It is also famous for its first-rate big-game fishing. Bimini is composed of three major islands, North, South, and East Bimini. Most of the population lives in Bailey Town on North Bimini.

The first early settlers included a group of emancipated slaves from West Africa, who built houses
with the materials at hand. The first colony was relocated from South to North Bimini to facilitate easier access to shipping lanes. The main industry of this first settlement was salvaging goods from ships wrecked on the Great Bahama Bank and the Great Isaac Rock. Bimini also served as the base for rumrunners from Nassau, who prospered during the American prohibition. Farming of crops such as cassava, corn, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, and pineapples later became the staple of the economy, along with fishing, as the sea offers up fish, conchs, crawfish, crabs and turtles.

If you love fishing, Bimini is the right place for you to enjoy. Bimini, Bahamas is rich in fishes, shellfish and other sea animals.

Valentines Day in the Bahamas? Get Engaged or Married at Blue Lagoon Island

DOLPHIN ENCOUNTERS HELPS HUNGARIAN COUPLE MAKE A SPLASH ON THEIR WEDDING DAY

BLUE LAGOON ISLAND

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something wet? Hungarian couple Jan and Charlene Both realized their wedding day dream by exchanging their vows in the sparkling waters of Blue Lagoon Island, a great thing for couples to do on Valentine’s Day in Nassau Bahamas, with their witnesses, Jake and Fatman - two of Dolphin Encounters' dolphins - looking on adoringly.

"From the beginning we knew that we wanted dolphins to be a part of our wedding. It was just a matter of finding the perfect place to do it. We looked everywhere. We searched the Internet for so many places. Then we found Dolphin Encounters and it was just perfect -everything we wanted," said Mrs. Both.

The couple flew over 5,000 miles from the Netherlands to exchange wedding vows in the Bahamas, leaving family and friends behind as they escaped to paradise.

Many people may think it strange to get married with dolphins, but the truth is dolphin weddings are what anyone would wish for their day- it is special, beautiful, meaningful, at times tearfully joyful and always, always fun!," said Latoya Rolle, Wedding Coordinator at Dolphin Encounters in the Bahamas. "Dolphin Encounters has literally given thousands of people the chance to make their dreams come true by swimming and interacting with dolphins. When we started receiving requests for weddings we didn't hesitate to provide this special service - it was really a natural extension of what we do everyday for so many."

The unique wedding day started with a scenic boat ride from Paradise Island to Blue Lagoon Island, where you can swim with dolphins. Once on the island, the couple were greeted by Dolphin Encounters staff and escorted to their secluded gazebo swim area, which was adorned with colourful tropical flowers and white decorations. As they descended in the water and began the ceremony, Jake (one of the male dolphins) brought their wedding bands over as they silently exchanged vows. After the minister pronounced the couple man and wife, the pair and the dolphins kissed in unison.

Over the years, Dolphin Encounters has helped couples make their dreams come true by arranging their weddings in paradise. Wedding packages include the service of a minister, beautiful decorations on the island and on platforms, catering, a wedding cake, champagne and professional photos and video that capture precious moments. Unlike traditional weddings, dolphin weddings require a few unique changes. For example, florists must provide bouquets that are capable of being taken into the water and sometimes carried by a dolphin, rings must be placed in a waterproof, floatable box (provided by Dolphin Encounters), and there are times when the officiating minister is required to perform the ceremony in the water alongside the dolphins.

Reverend Dr. Jackson Miller of Unforgettable Bahamas Weddings has married hundreds of couples on Blue Lagoon Island. He said the fact that the wedding is performed alongside dolphins does not take away from the beauty and seriousness of the union.

"I myself hope to get married here on Blue Lagoon Island one day. It's truly a wonderful experience. I wish I could sit here and do this all day and marry couples. Being here reminds me of how I imagine heaven is. It's just a peaceful, beautiful, calm paradise," he said.

Deacon Camarie Curties, who assisted Dr. Miller in performing the wedding, said: "Weddings here are just as special if not more so. It's so intimate and private, and hassle-free. You can't beat that."

After their swim program, the newly married couple changed into their traditional wedding attire and Mr. Both reflected on his marriage to his new bride.

"This feels so incredibly good right now. I feel like I'm dreaming. I'm in paradise with my new beautiful bride. It doesn't get better than this. Yesterday morning I was calling her Ms. Klein and today I'm calling her Mrs. Both. I'm looking forward to our lives together," he said.

Mrs. Both called the entire experience "absolutely amazing."

"There were so many things that I loved. This place is breathtaking; words cannot explain. Everything was just wonderful, from the ceremony itself to the swim that we did afterwards, to the organizers who went above and beyond to make our dreams come true."

Ms. Rolle coordinated the Both wedding from the start, and said it was the couple's easygoing personality that made her job easier.

"Charlene and Jan are two of the sweetest people I've ever met. They are both very personable and crazy in love. They made my job very easy, in that they give me their complete blessings to create their very own paradise." she said. "The entire experience with the Boths was wonderful; they filled my heart as I shared in their very special day. The most memorable part of the entire experience has got to be their appreciation for what we do here at Dolphin Encounters. We welcomed them into our family and they're just happy that we took such good care of them."

Dolphin weddings aren't the only way that the dolphins take part in occasions of the heart. Dolphin Encounters is also the perfect backdrop for anyone wanting to pop the question. The company provides engagement services free to guests who participate in one of its programs. The engagement takes place in the water, with the dolphin bringing the ring to the couple, a great thing to do on Valentine’s Day in Nassau, Bahamas.

"It never fails. Most women are expecting their boyfriends to get down on one knee and propose, so they never see it coming. When they realize that they're being proposed to in the water with dolphins, they get teary eyed. It's certainly a great way to start one's future together. It's truly a unique and unforgettable moment," said Annette Dempsey, Assistant Marine Mammal Director at Dolphin Encounters Ltd.

When to go & weather

The Bahamas enjoy around 320 sunny days a year; and daytime temperatures during winter (December to April) average 70ºF (21ºC) and a perfect 80ºF (26ºC) in summer. In general, the islands are balmy year-round, with cooling, near-constant trade winds blowing by day from the east.

The so-called rainy season extends from late May to November and humidity in the northern islands is relatively high year-round, but declines from northwest to southeast across the archipelago. Hurricane season is June to November.

The high season typically runs from mid-December to mid-April, when hotel prices are highest. Some hotels are booked solid around Christmas and Easter. The rest of the year, many hotels reduce their rates significantly. Some Out Island hotels close for the low season, but tourist accommodations are always available.

Bahamas Country Guide

The quiet coves, sheltered bays and crowd-free beaches of the Bahamas offer visitors the intimacy of a secluded retreat within a surprisingly expansive archipelago. Twice the size of Spain, the Bahamas is actually made up of over 700 palm-fringed isles.

Totally tropical

Named from the Spanish baja mar, meaning 'shallow sea', the Bahamas is blessed with clear, turquoise waters that are home to ancient shipwrecks and a rainbow of coral reefs teeming with fish. Pastel-coloured seashells and clapboard houses painted in bubblegum hues sit amidst a tropical landscape dotted with vibrant blooms. On many of the Bahamas' most unspoiled coastal stretches, empty beaches offer total tranquillity with the occasional squawking of an exotic bird and gently lapping waves the only distraction.

Plenty to do

For a change of pace, head to one of the islands' bustling straw markets to haggle over spices, ceramics, handicrafts and local art. Enjoy diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and parasailing or take to the fairways of a world-class golf course for ocean-facing holes.

Bahamian beats

Umpteen Bahamian bars and clubs pulsate with island rhythms, from pumping goombay and calypso to Junkanoo beats. Discover riotous dance festivals that mix African slave-trade rituals with Bahamian tempo and American hip-hop twists. Or experience the age-old traditions and legends of the islands at local cultural celebrations amidst costumes, food and song.

When to Go

The Weather

The temperature in The Bahamas averages between 75°F and 85°F (24°C-29°C) in both winter and summer, although it can get chilly in the early morning and at night. The Bahamian winter is usually like a perpetual late spring -- naturally, the high season for North Americans rushing to escape snow and ice. Summer brings broiling hot sun and humidity. There's a much greater chance of rain during the summer and fall.

The Hurricane Season

The curse of Bahamian weather, the hurricane season, lasts (officially) from June 1 to November 30. But there is no cause for panic. More tropical cyclones pound the U.S. mainland than The Bahamas. Hurricanes are actually fairly infrequent here, and when one does come, satellite forecasts generally give adequate advance warning so that precautions can be taken.

If you're heading for The Bahamas during the hurricane season, you might want to visit the National Weather Service at www.nws.noaa.gov.

For an online 10-day forecast, check the Weather Channel at www.weather.com.

The "Season"

In The Bahamas, hotels charge their highest prices during the peak winter period from mid-December to mid-April, when visitors fleeing from cold north winds flock to the islands. Winter is the driest season.

If you plan to visit during the winter, try to make reservations at least 2 to 3 months in advance. At some hotels, it's impossible to book accommodations for Christmas and the month of February without even more lead time.

Saving Money in the Off-Season -- The Bahamas is a year-round destination. The islands' "off season" runs from late spring to late fall, when tolerable temperatures prevail throughout most of the region. Trade winds ensure comfortable days and nights, even in accommodations without air-conditioning. Although the noonday sun may raise temperatures to uncomfortable levels, cool breezes usually make the morning, late afternoon, and evening more pleasant here than in many parts of the U.S. mainland.

Dollar for dollar, you'll spend less money by renting a summer house or fully equipped unit in The Bahamas than you would on Cape Cod, Fire Island, Laguna Beach, or the coast of Maine.

The off season -- roughly from mid-April to mid-December (rate schedules vary from hotel to hotel) -- amounts to a summer sale. In most cases, hotel rates are slashed from 20% to a startling 60%. It's a bonanza for cost-conscious travelers, especially families who like to go on vacations together.

Other Off-Season Advantages
-- Although The Bahamas may appear inviting in the winter to those who live in northern climates, your trip may be more enjoyable if you go in the off season. Here's why:

    * After the winter hordes have left, a less hurried way of life prevails.
    * Swimming pools and beaches are less crowded -- perhaps not crowded at all.
    * To survive, resort boutiques often feature summer sales.
    * You can often appear without a reservation at a top restaurant and get a table for dinner.
    * The endless waiting game is over: no waiting for a rented car, no long wait for a golf course tee time, and quicker access to tennis courts and watersports.
    * The atmosphere is more cosmopolitan than it is in winter, mainly because of the influx of Europeans.
    * Some package-tour fares are as much as 20% lower, and individual excursion fares may be reduced from 5% to 10%.
    * Accommodations and flights are much easier to book.
    * Summer is an excellent time for family travel, which is not always possible during the winter season.
    * Finally, the best Bahamian attractions -- sea, sand, surf, and lots of sunshine -- remain absolutely undiminished.

Off-Season Disadvantages -- Let's not paint too rosy a picture. Although the advantages of off-season travel far outweigh the disadvantages, there are nevertheless some drawbacks to traveling here in summer:

    * You might be staying at a construction site. Hoteliers save their major renovations until the off season. You may wake up to the sound of hammers.
    * Single tourists find the dating scene better in winter when there are more visitors, especially unattached ones.
    * Services are often reduced. In the peak of winter, everything is fully operational. But in summer, many programs (such as watersports) might be curtailed in spite of fine weather.

Avoiding Spring Break -- Throughout March and into mid-April, it's spring-break season in the Caribbean for vacationing college and high-school students. Expect beach parties, sports events, and musical entertainment; if the idea of hundreds of partying fraternity kids doesn't appeal to you, beware. When you make your reservations, ask if your hotel is planning to host any big groups of kids.

The Bahamas is such a beautiful place to spend you vacation with your loved ones. You'll definitely enjoy it. Just avoid their hurricane season.

Here to Wear

Your attire in The Bahamas will likely depend on the weather. The Bahamas stretches across an area roughly the size of California, so the weather varies somewhat from island to island. Some islands are slightly dryer while others get more rain; it's always good to be prepared for rain or shine whether you're staying in one place or island-hopping. Whatever your plans, comfortable clothing is essential.

Lightweight cottons and linens are advisable for day wear, while light woolens are suggested for evenings. Try to avoid synthetic fabrics, which may not be as breathable as natural fibers. Additionally, waterproof clothing and rainwear are a necessity all year long. Rain showers in The Bahamas usually come up suddenly, come down hard, and end fairly quickly, so you need to be prepared with a waterproof jacket or umbrella. Opt for something easy to carry that you can quickly slip on and then put away again when the sun reappears.

The Bahamas has been known as a vacation destination for longer than most of the Caribbean, and with 2201 miles of coastline on more than 700 islands and 2,500 cays, beachwear is a necessity. Therefore, unlike some of the other islands in the Caribbean, it is not considered inappropriate to leave the beach in your beachwear. The Bahamas is a bit more laid back than some of the islands that retain more staunch cultural standards from their days as British colonies. However, you should still use common sense and not show up to even a casual restaurant in shorts and a bikini top.

If you are traveling for business, a lightweight suit, jacket, and tie are appropriate. The usual Western formalities and courtesies are observed.

You can wear a light fabric which you'll be comfortable. It's nice to wear floral print or colorful clothes.
